Vitamin A 10,000 IU Tablets in Sri Lanka: Read This Before You Choose
What vitamin A does
Vitamin A contributes to the maintenance of normal vision, normal skin and mucous membranes, normal iron metabolism and the normal function of the immune system.
A high strength dose
10,000 IU is roughly 3,000 micrograms of retinol. UK advice is that adults should not regularly take more than 1,500 micrograms a day from food and supplements together, so a daily 10,000 IU product is well above that figure. Vitamin A is stored in the body, and too much over time can be harmful. Do not take vitamin A supplements if you are pregnant or may become pregnant, unless a doctor has told you to. Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before taking a high dose product.
The three products
- Nutravita Vitamin A 10,000 IU: 365 tablets, a one year supply at one a day.
- WeightWorld Vitamin A 10,000IU: tablets as retinyl acetate, 365 per pack, vegan and non-GMO, a one year supply.
- Pure Encapsulations Vitamin A 10,000 IU: 120 softgel capsules from Norwegian cod liver oil and vitamin A palmitate.
How to choose
Check the form (retinyl acetate or palmitate), the format (tablet or softgel), whether it is suitable for vegans (the cod liver oil product is not), and the number of days per pack. Do not combine with another vitamin A or multivitamin without adding up the total.
