Vitamin D3 4000IU Tablets in Sri Lanka: Three Brands Compared
What 4000IU means
4000IU of vitamin D3 equals 100 micrograms. The nutrient reference value is 5 micrograms, so the label shows about 2,000%. Vitamin D contributes to normal absorption of calcium and phosphorus, to the maintenance of normal bones, teeth and muscle function, and to the normal function of the immune system.
For context, the UK general advice for adults is 10 micrograms (400IU) a day, and 100 micrograms a day is the safe upper limit. A 4000IU tablet sits right at that upper limit, so it is not a casual daily dose. Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before taking it long term, and do not combine it with other vitamin D products.
